DIY scarf

I have loads of remaining pieces of fabrics which I only store in paper bags for "someday" craft projects. Now it's time to start using them! This time I decided to do a scarf in combination of grey leaf printed cotton and  light grey jersey.  

Instructions:

1. Choose 2 fabrics you like. I chose light-grey jersey fabric and light grey cotton fabric with cute leaves print. 
2. Cut two long rectangles from each fabric in same length and width. My scarf is made from 170 cm (67 inches) long and 42 cm (16.5 inches) wide rectangles. 
3. Pin and stitch the sides right sides together to create a long tube.
4. pull the tube right side out, and pin the seams at the two open ends.
5. Stitch both sides separately to create long stole
6. This is it! Very easy 1 hour project! 

Does this scarf look more like a circle scarf? That's because I tied the scarf ends below the front fold! Here are other ways how you can tie a scarf. Isn't it great? (source: Pinterest)

Geometry inspired Fashion

As you could read in my post from November, I love origami influenced fashion as well as geometry inspired fashion.  Do you remember drawing all those various shapes at school, such as triangles, rectangles, diamonds, hexagons or circles? Honestly Math and Geometry weren't my favorite subjects but now I just love to see all those geometric shapes on fabrics or dress patterns! No matter if you choose a tight dress or lose shirt, as long as it has some geometric design, it will surely look great this season!

Skirt tutorial - remake a wide & long skirt into thinner & shorter skirt!

I  kept myself busy with remaking this never worn skirt last weekend. I think I got it as a present few years ago. I don't remember from who eerrrrrrrrrr...but it was somebody who thought I am much taller and wider! I didn't want to bin it so I kept it for a couple of years in my wardrobe. I owe few pieces like this skirt which are only hanging  there waiting for their time to show up and be wore... Well, this skirt wishes have just came true! 

Instructions:

1. Turn the skirt inside out and put it on. Mark the skirt with a chalk or insert pins vertically along the sides. Adjust both sides equally to the desired tightness. In this case I marked skirts 1 inch from each side. 

2. Ensure the skirt fits your hips and belt comfortably. Hold the skirt tight and sit down. Ensure that you can sit comfortably. 

2. Sew along each side edge.  Remove pins as you sew! 

3. Cut the extra length off of the sides and bottom and then re-hem.

Braided Layered scarf – DIY project

The summer is over whether we want it or not. It’s getting colder, colors are coming to the trees and it’s just a right time to replace your summer closet with warm sweaters, long pants and heavy jackets. Considering how cold it’s been lately, I decided to do a few scarves for myself.

I found a tutorial for this scarf on Internet few days ago and I just couldn’t wait to do this project. It is very first scarf I made and I am not completely happy with a result BUT I am planning to do more and improve it in future so hopefully I will be happier with those.

It is very easy project to do. All you have to do is cut as many fabric stripes as you like and braid as many ropes as you like. If you wander what fabric you should use I would recommend viscose or some lightweight fabric. You can use a fabric width as a length of stripes (cca 61 inches/ 150 cm). Fabric stripes should have different width for each braided rope ( I used only 2 ropes which I made of 3 fabric stripes -12 and 10 inches width) I am going to do more ropes for each scarf in future. I think it will look better.

Then hand sew (or machine sew) each rope's ends together. Do the same with some wider stripe of fabric, which you might also gather a little, as it will be on the back of your neck. To keep all ropes together take some remaining fabric, or some interesting fabric stripe or lace and pin it onto the seams. Hand sew the piece on all parts of the scarf.

This is my latest project - blouse made by me last minute before leaving Cork to Malaga for holidays. I used white&red flower fabric which was originally sold as a duvet cover :)  When I saw it in the shop I imagined some nice summer dress or top made from it as the material was very soft and breathable, also very light. So I bought it and finally I decided to make a summer casual blouse. 

What I really like about this blouse is Carmen-Style neckline. It exposes your shoulders just enough to feel sun heat from above :)

I would like to know your opinion. Do you like the pattern? What about a fabric choice ? Would you change anything?
